CLINTON, S.C. – The High Point University baseball team picked up an essential win over Presbyterian on Thursday night.
Peyton Carr went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a home run while
Charlie Klingler was 3-for-5 with two two-baggers as well.

HPU was hot from the start as
Javon Fields singled through the right side and scored on Carr's 2-run home run. Klingler followed up with a double to left center and scored on
Cole Singsank's single through the left side to give the Panthers the early 3-0 advantage.
Sean Duffy got the start on the mound and retired the first three Blue Hose batters in order before striking out the side in the second inning.
The Panthers added four more insurance runs in the top of the second.
Jackson Melton led off with a single and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from
Josh Deslauriers. Carr's first double of the night scored Melton to put HPU ahead, 4-0.
Klingler doubled again and traded places on the bases with Carr before scoring on
Adam Stuart's single to left field.
Blake Sutton singled and moved Stuart to third before Singsank singled to score Stuart.
The Panthers were quiet until they added another run in the fifth when Sutton reached on an error and stole second base. Singsank's fly out moved Sutton to third base before
Andrew Amato's shot back to the pitcher ricocheted over to the shortstop, allowing him reached base safely and score Sutton.
HPU added another run in the sixth as Carr led off with a walk and bases were loaded after singles from Klingler and Stuart. Singsank's fly out allowed Carr to score and hold the comfortable 9-0 lead.
Presbyterian added four runs between the sixth and seventh innings but reliever
Everett Vaughan shut down the Blue Hose bats, scattering three hits in 2.2 innings and allowing no runs.
