HPU Wins Big Over Wofford

Site: Spartanburg, S.C.

Score: High Point 24, Wofford 11

Records: High Point (2-8, 1-1), Wofford (2-7, 0-2)

SPARTANBURG, S.C.—The High Point University women's lacrosse team picked up their first road win of Big South play on Saturday (April 2) afternoon. Abby Hormes led the way with seven goals and three assists while Pia Cavallaro scored five goals.

Coach Lyndsey Boswell: Any time you can get your full team on the field in a game, it's a great day! I'm excited to get this conference win under our belt as we take what we've learned the past few weeks and move forward. Abby took control of the draw with Emma and gave us opportunities on offense that were converted early in the game. We still have work to do as we strive to play our best brand of lacrosse, but today brought us one step closer.

Panther Particulars

The Panthers put the pressure on the Terriers right out of the gate as five different Panthers scored the opening five goals for the purple and white to give HPU a 5-1 lead.

The Terriers fought back and were able to score three of the four last goals of the first quarter to make it a 7-4 game at the first break.

HPU came out hot in the second quarter scoring seven unanswered goals, including a hat trick from Hormes in 76 seconds.

The Terriers were able to find one back to make it a 14-6 game, but the Panthers responded by scoring three consecutive goals from Mena Loescher, Julia Nicastro, and Pia Cavallaro as they entered the halftime break with a 17-6 lead.

Wofford scored two goals to open up the third quarter, but HPU strung together six consecutive goals, sparked by Cavallaro, to make it a 23-9 game.

Emma Eustace was able to add one more goal in the fourth quarter for the Purple and white before the Terriers added two more to close out the game at 24-9.

Up Next
