Head coach
Joey Hammond: "Good job coming out here, you put 15 runs up on a Friday in any league, that's a really good thing. And Shep deserves it, we haven't given him much run support this season, and those last three outs that he got us to kind of help preserve some of our bullpen were huge.
Griffyn Shelton coming in and getting us three outs there to help preserve our bullpen for the rest of this weekend was really big. I felt we continued to fight offensively and stack at bats. 16 hits and we earn some free bases in there to get some big two-out RBIs I'm really proud of the guys. But we're going to need to answer the bell tomorrow and then come out and get this job done and have a chance to secure a series tomorrow."
Â
Radford opened up the top of the first with two runs scored on three hits, but Sheppard forced the fly out to end the threat and strand two runners on base.
Â
HPU answered with a run of their own in the bottom half as
Charlie Klingler singled up the middle and advanced to second as
Blake Sutton drew his first of two walks on the night. Both runners advanced to third and second on a wild pitch before Klingler scored on
Adam Stuart's RBI-ground out to the right side.
Â
Sheppard found his rhythm, retiring batters in order in the second innings and picking up two strikeouts in the third, leaving the bases loaded.
Â
The Panthers opened up a six-run third inning as Klingler reached on a throwing error and
Peyton Carr doubled to right field to put runners in scoring position. Another walk drawn by Sutton loaded the bases for Stuart. After a wild pitch scored Klingler, Stuart notched another RBI-ground out to score Carr.
Â
Sutton scored on another wild pitch from the Highlander pitcher to clear the bases.
Javon Fields tallied his first hit of the day with a single to center field.
Cole Singsank followed up with a double to center field and moved Fields to third base.
Â
Miggy Echazarreta's single to left field scored Fields and moved Singsank to third to put runners on the corners for
Cameron Irvine, who reached on a fielder's choice as Singsank was thrown out at home. With two runners on base,
Jackson Melton smacked a triple to the center field wall to score Echazarreta and Irvine and give HPU the commanding 7-3 lead heading into the fourth.
Â
HPU continued the scoring run in the fourth as Carr led off with a single and moved to second on Sutton's ground out. Stuart singled through the left side before Fields picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly out to score Carr.
Â
On a 1-2 count, Singsank sent out his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
Â
High Point added two more insurance runs in the fifth inning, with Irvine singling down the right field line before
Josh Deslauriers took over on the base paths. Melton reached base with a single and both runners moved into scoring position on Klingler's ground out. Carr was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Sutton's sacrifice fly out scored Deslauriers. Stuart walked to reload the bases and all runners advanced as Melton scored on a wild pitch to give the Panthers the 12-4 lead.
Â
Melton, Klingler, and Carr all singled to lead off the seventh as Melton scored on Carr's RBI shot. With two outs, Fields singled through the left side to score pinch runner
Cameron Lee. Singsank's third hit of the night scored Stuart and gave HPU the 15-5 lead with two innings to play.
Â
Sean Duffy closed out the contest on the mound for the Panthers, throwing 2.0 innings and allowing no runs.
