The High Point University baseball team dropped their midweek contest to Appalachian State, 17-9.
Cameron Irvine and
Andrew Amato both recorded multi-hit nights while
Reid Viar took the loss on the mound and moved to 1-2 on the season.

The Panthers got out to a hot start in the top of the first as
Adam Stuart and
Peyton Carr notched back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second for
Blake Sutton. After a wild pitch moved Stuart and Carr to third and second, respectively, Sutton landed a double to right center and then scored on
Andrew Amato's ground out to the right side.

App State rallied in the second, plating six runs on six hits to take a three-run lead of their own.

Amato recorded his first collegiate double with a ball down the right field line to score
Javon Fields in the top of the 4
th. But after advancing to third on a fly out, the Mountaineers forced a ground out to end the inning.

The Mountaineers add two more runs in the fourth and six more with a grand slam in the fifth to hold a commanding 14-4 lead over HPU.

The Panthers got runners on in the seventh as
Cameron Irvine led off with a stand up double to left center before
Justin Ebert singled up the middle to put runners on the corners with no outs.

Easton Laplaca doubled down the left field line to score both runners and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Josh Deslauriers hammered his second career home run to left field to score Laplaca and bring HPU back with 14-8 heading to the middle of the seventh.

App State mounted a two-run rally to push the lead back to eight runs with two innings to play, but another Mountaineer run in the eighth put the home team up, 17-9.
