With the exception of a 2-RBI double in the top of the second, Panther starter
Sam Garcia pitched a career-best 7.0 innings, striking out four batters while scattering five hits and one walk.Â
Facing an early 2-0 deficit, High Point managed to plate a run in the bottom of the second to stay in contention.
Blake Sutton led off with a double to left field and stole third base, then scored on
Miggy Echazarreta's ground out to the shortstop.Â
HPU added the tying run in the bottom of the sixth, as
Adam Stuart singled to left field and advanced to third on Carr's single to the same spot.
Cole Singsank singled up the middle and scored Stuart.
The Panthers had hits in both the seventh and eighth innings, but could not find a way to score. Reliever
Everett Vaughan gave up the game-winner in the top of the ninth on a solo home run. HPU went down in order in the ninth, unable to extend the game.Â
