While
Adam Stuart managed a first-inning single, the Spartans would be the ones to strike first and plate a run in the bottom of the inning. Upstate continued the effort in the third inning, using three singles to score two runs and take a 3-0 lead at the end of the third inning.
Â
Cole Singsank spearheaded a two-out rally in top of the fourth with a solo home run, his fourth on the season. In the next at bat,
David Coleman hammered his first career homer to right field to pull HPU back within 3-2.
Â
Â
Upstate added another run in fourth, and with runners on first and second the Spartans hit an infield single. But Singsank threw out the runner attempting to take an extra base at home plate to end the inning.
Â
Â
In the seventh, Upstate added two more insurance runs on two outs as the Spartans singled, doubled, and singled again to take the 6-2 lead with two innings to play.
Â
The Panthers threatened in the eighth as
Jackson Melton led off with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on sacrifice hit, but a chopper to third base ended the inning for HPU.
Â
After
Griffyn Shelton retired three batters in a timely fashion,
Blake Sutton led off the top of the ninth with a walk and
Sam Zayicek reached on an infield single. Two consecutive wild pitches moved runners two bases apiece, as Sutton scored to get HPU back within 6-3.
Â
But after a full count battle, pinch hitter
Justin Ebert grounded out to the third baseman to end the game. Â Â

Up Next: High Point continues their weekend series with Upstate tomorrow (Saturday, April 2
