The High Point University men's basketball team (14-17, 7-9) has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament and will play against #2 Winthrop on Friday (Mar. 4). Tip-off is set for 6 pm.
Across The Bench
Winthrop finished the regular season 21-8. The Eagles were 14-2 in Big South play. Winthrop only dropped two Big South contests, one to High Point and one to Longwood.
D.J. Burns was named the Big South Player of the year. Burns is just the fifth Winthrop player to surpass 1000 points before coming a senior.

HPU defeated Hampton 84-77 in the Big South First Round in an overtime thriller.

Record Setting Weekly Honors
Austin has set the record for most Big South Freshman of the week honors with eight. Surpassing Carlik Jones (Radford/Louisville) and Christian Keeling (Charleston Southern/North Carolina). Austin averaged 17.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks last week en route to two critical Panther wins. Against NC A&T he had 14 points and 6 rebounds in the win. Against Hampton he nearly had a triple-double as he ended with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and six blocks.
Chairman of the Boards
Austin leads the Big South in rebounding; he averages 8.0 per game. Austin is currently 71st in the nation for most rebounds per game.
The Wright Way
Wright is averaging 18.3 points per game which leads the Big South and the 57th best ppg in the nation. Wright is currently 4th all-time on the Division-I HPU scoring list with 1477. He is 593 points away from moving into 3rd and surpassing Arizona Reid.
Block Party
The Panthers are ranked #35 in the nation in blocked shots per game, averaging 4.8. HPU has 148 blocked shots on the season.
