High Point University Track & Field prepares to host one of its several home meets this season with the Annual Bill Webb Combined Events/Bob Davidson Memorial taking place on Friday and Saturday (March 18-19).

The Field: Bryant, Concord, Duke, Elon (Women only), High Point, James Madison (Women only), Johnson C. Smith, Kentucky Christian, Lafayette, Lipscomb, Louisburg (Men only), NC A&T, North Carolina, Pfeiffer, Rio Grande, Rochester (MI) (Women only), Saint Francis, St. Augustine's, UNCW, Wake Forest, William Peace.

Field Notes: The field includes three ACC teams in Duke, North Carolina, and Wake Forest. Six of the teams scored at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor championships last season in Oregon, NC A&T (M&W), UNC (M&W), Duke (W), HPU (W).

Media Coverage: This weekend's meet will be conducted by Flash Results as will all HPU home meets this season. Both days will be streamed live on ESPN+, coverage starts at 5:00 PM on Friday and will carry nearly all the action on Saturday.

Last Time Out: The Panther men's track, and field team finished runner up at the 2022 Big South Indoor Championships with a total of 123. Campbell won with 141 points. A&T had 116 points in third place.

The Panther women's track and field team finished runner up at the 2022 Big South Indoor Championships with a total of 159. NC A&T scored an impressive 207 points. Hampton was a distant third with 96. Hannah Brookover was named the Big South Most Valuable Athlete. Brookover was second in the mile, first in the 3000m, and first in the 5000m. Sydney Horn earned the award for Most Outstanding Performance which goes to the athlete who recorded the highest mark or fastest time nationally in the meet. Horn earned it for her 4.42m performance yesterday. Alicia Dawson won another Big South individual title in the women's triple jump.

About Bob Davidson: Davidson, a 1955 graduate of High Point College, is the Panthers' longest-tenured coach in High Point history, leading the men's and later women's cross country and track and field program for 39 seasons from 1962-2001. He was honored as coach of the year 21 times across three conferences. HPU cross country teams captured 18 conference championships, while track and field programs won 14 conference and division titles under Davidson's tutelage.

About Bill Webb: Webb earned his bachelor's degree in Physical Education from HPU in 1971. As a member of the track & field team, Webb was an All-Conference selection, team captain and school record holder. He is U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Hall of Famer. Webb had a nearly 40-year career as a collegiate coach culminating with 24 years at Tennessee – the first 10 as assistant coach before his final 14 as head coach. He retired in 2009. Webb's seasons as Tennessee's head coach produced many of the program's proudest moments, including two NCAA and four SEC team championships. He became the first coach in Vol history to win back-to-back NCAA titles after following up the 2001 NCAA outdoor crown with the 2002 NCAA indoor championship. Webb was an assistant coach for Tennessee's 1991 national crown.
