SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The High Point University women's basketball team fell to Stony Brook in its first game of the Puerto Rico Clasico.
Skyler Curran tallied a season-high 29 points while
Callie Scheier and
Nakyah Terrell chipped in 15 points apiece.

The Panthers and Seawolves battled earlier on, trading baskets through the first media timeout. Curran posted five points in the stretch with a three-pointer and two free throws while Scheier added a triple as well.
Stony Brook opened up an 18-12 run, but HPU stormed back to take a 20-18 lead with 1:14 remaining in the period after another five points from Curran and a three-pointer from Scheier.
Scheier and Curran continued to pour in points from beyond the arc to pull HPU within 29-26 in the second quarter. Terrell added a layup as High Point trailed with 5:17 remaining in the half.
The Seawolves closed the half on a 9-0 run to hold a 48-38 lead over the Panthers.
After Curran and Scheier again started the scoring for HPU out of the halftime break,
Claire Wyatt added a three-pointer and a layup before
Jenson Edwards knocked down her first triple.
Terrell and Curran closed the quarter with a three-pointer each to pull HPU back within 61-60 with 10 minutes to play.
Stony Brook was able to hold High Point at bay, opening the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run until Terrell made a layup to pull within 69-62.
Another Wyatt layup and Edwards three-pointer pulled the Panthers back within nine, but a 7-0 run for Stony Brook left HPU trailing by double digits with one minute remaining.
