GREENVILLE, N.C. – The High Point University women's basketball team fell to East Carolina in overtime during Wednesday midday basketball action. Four Panthers scored in double figures while
Jenson Edwards nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

HPU struggled to score in the first quarter as the Pirates opened up with a 4-0 run and held the Panthers scoreless until
Skyler Curran's jumper with 7:34 remaining in the first quarter.
Anna Häger got on the board midway through the period to bring HPU back within 9-4 after a 5-0 ECU run. The Pirates used a 9-2 run the rest of the quarter to take an 18-6 lead at the end of the first period.
Callie Scheier's made jumper started a dominant second quarter for High Point, as the Panthers would limit the Pirates to two points in the period.
HPU closed the half on a 4-0 run with free throws from Edwards and
Nevaeh Zavala to pull back within 20-18 at the break.
Zavala had five points in the third quarter after she knocked down a three-pointer and a jump shot, but ECU used a 9-0 run midway through the period to hold on to a 31-24 lead. Another three-pointer from
Nakyah Terrell and a layup from Edwards pulled HPU within 31-29 before Curran's three-pointer with 4:29 remaining gave the Panthers their first lead at 32-31.
After ECU jumped ahead with a 5-0 run, a jumper from Edwards followed by a Curran triple tied the game back up at 37-37.
Free throws from Edwards and Curran to end the quarter gave HPU the 43-40 lead heading into the final frame.
The Pirates used a 7-0 run to open the fourth quarter and held a 49-43 over the Panthers, but baskets from Terrell and Zavala on consecutive possessions brought HPU back within 49-47.
The two teams continued to trade points for the last 1:35 of regulation, which would end up sending the game to be decided in overtime.
In overtime, HPU was limited to one point, while the Pirates picked up the 65-54 win.
