COLUMBIA, S.C.—High Point University Track & Field finished two days of competition in Columbia, South Carolina at the South Carolina Invitational. HPU competed against Allen, Anderson University, Benedict College, Bethune Cookman, Brewton-Parker College, Campbell University, Charleston Southern University, Claflin University, College of Charleston, Columbia College, Columbia International, Converse College, East Carolina, Edward Waters University, Embry-Riddle, Emmanuel College, Emory University, Erskine College, Florida International University, Fort Lauderdale, Furman, Hampton University, High Point University, Johnson C Smith, Lenoir Rhyne, Limestone University, Mercer University, Meridian Community College, Mississippi College, Norfolk State University, North Greenville University, Queens University of Charlotte, Savannah State University, Shorter University, South Carolina, Southern Wesleyan University, USC Upstate, VCU, The Citadel, UNC Charlotte, Waynesburg, Western Carolina, Wingate, Winthrop, Wofford. Sydney Horn who further solidified her position for the 2022 Indoor NCAA National Championships in Birmingham as she posted a mark of 4.40m which is currently the fifth best mark in the nation.
Nyile Facey recorded two top 10 finishes in both the 60m dash and the 200m dash.
Panther Particulars
Sydney Horn further solidified her spot in the women's pole vault at the National Championship in Birmingham in March as she now holds claim to the fifth best mark in the nation at 4.40m. In Fayetteville last March in the women's pole-vault her mark of 4.41m was good enough for third. She hit 4.40m in her second attempt then took three quality attempts at 4.50m which would have been the top mark in the nation. She finished second overall and was the top collegiate finisher.
Nathalie Elliott finished sixth with a mark of 3.90m.
Mackenzie Horn finished eighth with a mark of 3.80m.
Alicia Dawson finished second in the triple jump invite with a school record setting mark of 12.34m. Her second place jump came in her sixth and final attempt.
On Friday night Facey set a PR in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.48 to advance to the finals which set a new HPU school record indoors. She finished sixth in the finals with a time of 8.57. Facey finished 10th out of over 100 competitors in the 200 with a time of 25.32 while
Leah Bolden finished 12th with a time of 25.34 as she made her return to action.
Rachel Vesper finished first in the Pole Vault with a mark of 3.60m. She went clean all the way through four bars. Her first misses didn't come until 3.70m where she took three solid attempts. She outlasted 29 other competitors.
Ebba Ahman was able to advance to the 60m hurdle semifinals with a time of 8.95. She finished fourth overall in the 60m hurdle qualifying.
Abi Craig posted a PR in the 400 as she finished first in her heat a finished with a time of 57.50.
Letizia Marsico set a new indoor school record in the shot put as she threw 13.33m.
