BLACKSBURG, Va.—High Point University Track was back in action for the first time in 2022. It marked one of two times the Panthers will visit Rector Field House this season. HPU competed against Virginia Tech, Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Syracuse, Virginia, Tennessee, Army, UNC Charlotte, High Point, and VCU. The Panthers were one of four non-power-5 teams competing in Blacksburg this weekend.
Sydney Horn highlighted the weekend for the Panther women jumping 4.34m and finishing second in an elite women's pole vault field.
Panther Particulars
Sydney Horn cleared her biggest bar of the season so far in just her second time jumping in the 2021-22 season. Sydney cleared 4.34m which puts her in tremendous position to again qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships. For perspective, she punched her ticket a season ago with a mark of 4.33m.
Mackenzie Horn finished fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.09m, which was her best mark of the season so far.
Alicia Dawson was in the triple jump on Friday night she finished fourth with a mark of 12.06m and was the top finisher not from an ACC or SEC school. Dawson was back in action on Saturday in the long jump. Dawson finished sixth jumping 5.85m.
Rachel Vesper was the top Panther finisher in the unseeded pole vault with a mark of 3.50m.
Ebba Ahman finished fourth in the 400m she ran a time of 58.55 in her first collegiate running of the 400.
Letizia Marsico threw 13.11m in the shot put.
UP NEXT: HPU heads back up to Lynchburg for the Brant Tolsma Invitational next weekend starting on Thursday, January 20th as indoor track is in full swing.
