CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-- The High Point University men's cross-country team finished fourth as a team with a score of 89 at the Virginia Invitational hosted by UVA on Friday (Sep. 17th). Hocine Bouchrak was the first Panther finisher as he came in third in a strong performance at Panorama Farms.
Mike Esposito: "I saw a big improvement, I saw better organization, I saw more of their personalities which is really important. This is a challenging course, it is a legit 8K. I liked what I saw today."
Panther Particulars
Bouchrak finished third after a thrilling effort in the final 3K that saw Bouchrak charge from fourth place after the 5K split to firmly reclaim third. Bouchrak started the race in front and was able to maintain that position, and sealed his day with a third-place finish with a time of 24:28.6.
Ian Miller continues his strong start to his junior year as Miller finished 19th in a spirited effort with a time of 25:33.0. Miller improved 17 spots throughout the race. Miller was the second Panther finisher.
Lemoyne transfer Ben Dertinger had his best performance to date in his young HPU career. Dertinger finished 21st with a time of 25:37.0 he also improved 17 spots throughout the race.
Stephen Gray was the fourth finisher for the Panthers with a time of 25:40.5 placing 22nd overall. Gray improved 15 spots throughout the race.
Austen Cave placed 32nd with a time of 25:58.7. Hunter Steinau and Graham Ferguson were the two final scorers for the Panthers on Friday night.

UP NEXT
HPU will again be competing at another ACC opponent as Louisville hosts the Live in Lou Classic. The Panthers will be traveling to Louisville for the first time in several years, which provides HPU with a chance to compete in the state of Kentucky in the same season that the University of Kentucky hosts the Regional.
