EARLYSVILLE, Va.-- The High Point University Cross Country teams travel north for the second race of the 2021 fall season at the Virginia Invitational hosted by UVA. The Panthers come into UVA after running at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone two Fridays ago.
Ickes Leads the Way
Lindsey Ickes was the top finisher for the Panthers in HPU's opening race in Boone as she placed 12th with a time of 17:45.84.
Last Time Out for the Panther Women
HPU finished third as a team with a score of 102 at the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State on Friday (Sep. 3rd).
Picking Up Where He Left Off
Hocine Bouchrak was the top Panther finisher at the Covered Bridge Open placing second overall behind FSU's Adriaan Wildschutt a contender for this year's national title. Bouchrak finished second in an impressive performance running the 8k nearly sub 25 minutes finishing with a time of 25:08.18.
Last Time Out for the Panther Men
HPU finished fourth as a team with a score of 108 at the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State on Friday (Sep. 3rd).
Panthers to Watch For
In Boone, Franzi Jakobs was the second Panther finisher placing 19th with a time of 18:05.74. The third HPU runner to finish was Sydney Bagus with a time of 18:15.22. Freshman Anna Ritter finished 25th with a time of 18:17.61. For the men, Ian Miller put together a gutsy performance finishing 20th overall with a time of 26:05.95. Austen Cave was the third Panther to finish placing 21st behind his HPU teammate with a time of 26:09.66. Stephen Gray placed 33rd with a time of 26:24.64.
Up Next
HPU will again be competing at another ACC opponent as Louisville hosts the Live in Lou Classic. The Panthers will be traveling to Louisville for the first time in several years, which provides HPU with a chance to compete in the state of Kentucky in the same season that the University of Kentucky hosts the Regional.
