#24 High Point Hosts #25 Coastal Carolina in Sunday Night Ranked Showdown

The High Point University men's soccer team hosts CCU in its home opener on Sunday night (Aug. 29th) at 6:00 PM for a ranked showdown inside Vert Stadium. Coastal Carolina becomes the 10th ranked opponent HPU has faced since 2018. This is the first time HPU has hosted a ranked opponent while also being ranked. 

Matchup History with Coastal

Sunday night's match-up reunites two old Big South foes as Coastal used to be in the Big South before leaving in 2016. It will be the first time The Panthers have faced the Wildcats since 2018. High Point will host Coastal Carolina on Sunday. The Panthers will take on Coastal for the first time since 2015 when HPU defeated #15 in the nation CCU in penalties in the first round of the Big South Tournament. Coastal leads the all-time series 2-17-6. HPU is looking for its first win over Coastal while the Chants are ranked. This will be the ninth meeting between Coastal and HPU where CCU has a number next to its name. 

A look at Coastal

After beating #7 Wake Forest in its last exhibition game last week, CCU played to a 0-0 draw with #14 Kentucky last Thursday in their first game of the year. They return thier leader in Iscoring from a season ago Lage Marcelo who had five goals on the year.

Last Time Out

HPU fell to Davidson 3-1 on the road in its season opener on Thursday night (Aug. 26). Ashton Perkins scored the lone Panther goal in the contest. 

Ten minutes later, in the 82nd minute, Perkins finished a ball that bounced off of the Wildcat keeper after being shot by MD Myers. Perkins recorded the first goal of the young Panther season. 

MAC Herman Watchlist

For the first time in program history, High Point had two Panthers named to the MAC Herman Watchlist in the same year in Sebastian Chalbaud and MD Myers.

Preseason in Review

HPU went 1-1-1 in preseason play, Myers led the way in scoring in the exhibitions with two goals. Alex Abril had an assist in the Montreat game and then added the lone goal against CofC.

Three For Three 

HPU has been ranked in all three preseason polls as Top-Drawer Soccer announced on Monday that HPU was ranked 22 in the TDS media poll. 

Recruiting Rankings

The future is bright for High Point Soccer as for the second straight season HPU will be bringing in a top 25 recruiting class as ranked by Top-Drawer Soccer. 

Best XI 

Rounding out the busy news week from Top-Drawer Soccer for the Panthers both MD Myers and Sebastian Chalbaud earned Best XI honors from TDS.
