Panthers Notes
Powerful Panthers
With the conference win, the Panthers improved to 30-3-3 in Big South play since 2016. The Panthers are now 4-0 in Big South play with wins over Gardner-Webb, Radford, Campbell, and now Winthrop.
Keep Holden' On
Holden Trent went all 90 minutes in a 3-0 shutout win against Winthrop, for his 4th shutout of the season. Trent is now tied for 9th in the nation for shutouts. Trent was selected as a member of this week's Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week. He is the second Panther to be chosen to a Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week joining Myers.
House Call
Myers has been on fire to start the season. The Delran, New Jersey native is fourth in the nation in goals per game. Myers currently has eight goals through HPU's first seven games. Myers has scored braces in four out of seven games.
Haines on Last Time
"The best thing about tonight was the composure and patience that the guys showed," Coach Zach Haines said. In the first half, we created some good moments towards the end we just couldn't quite breakthrough. Winthrop worked hard, definitely made it a game for us in the first half. We settled into it for sure but we could not just find a goal. In the second half, we came out with a lot of composure and just kept going got the goal, got the second goal, and then we put it away with the third. Then we killed the game off so I loved the attitude and the mentality and the attitude that the guys brought to the second half after the first half just didn't quite get it going."
Limiting Chances
Over six games the Panthers have only allowed three goals. HPU opponents have only had 14 corner kicks total after six contests. The Panther defense is holding opponents to a .070 shooting percentage with only sixteen of the opponents' shots registered being on goal. HPU is outscoring opponents 19-3.
Bring 'em Back
High Point seniors Mason Marcey & Nick Phipps announced on social media last week that they are coming back for the Fall of 2021 season. This means the Panthers will return the entire roster from this spring & add a Top 25 recruiting class into the mix.
