The High Point University women's basketball team will take to the road for the first time this season as they meet Davidson on Saturday for more non-conference action. HPU enters the meeting with a 2-1 record, taking wins over East Carolina and Mid-Atlantic Christian in their first week of the regular season schedule.
 
Across the Bench
Davidson is 2-2 on the young season, dropping games to No. 24 Virginia Tech and Columbia before picking up a win over Jacksonville State. On Wednesday, the Wildcats knocked off Georgetown, 70-55.
 
Davidson lost their leading scorer from the 2020-21 season, but return the next three in Suzi-Rose Deegan, Cassidy Gould, and Adelaide Fuller. Deegan leads the team with 15.5 points per game while Fuller has pulled down 19 rebounds in three games. Redshirt sophomore forward Elle Sutphin has been a force coming off the bench as well, averaging 8.7 points per game and pulling down 4.3 rebounds per game.
 
Last Time Out
HPU took a solid 109-38 victory over MACU on Sunday, November 14. Four Panthers scored in double figures and every player that recorded minutes scored in the contest. The Panthers shot over 54 percent from the floor and over 48 percent from behind the arc.

Junior Callie Scheier posted another double-digit performance against Mid-Atlantic Christian, knocking in seven three-pointers and going 2-for-2 at the free throw line. She also pulled down two rebounds and dished out three assists to go along with three steals and no turnovers.
 
 
Banbury is Back
Head coach Chelsea Banbury is entering her third season at the helm. She was named the fifth Division I head coach of High Point University's women's basketball team in June 2019. Banbury has a 38-20 record at High Point through her first two seasons.
 
Panthers Enter as Preseason No. 1
High Point was selected as the preseason No. 1 in the Big South while Skyler Curran and Jenson Edwards (left) both earned Big South Preseason honors. Curran was named Big South Preseason Player of the Year after leading the team in scoring last season (17.7 points/game) while Edwards earned Big South Preseason Second Team recognition. Edwards also garnered the Becky Hammond Mid-Major Player of the Year Award after she posted the fifth-highest scoring average in the Big South with a total of 14.6 points per game.

As a team the Panthers finished 21st in NCAA Division I three-point percentage last season, shooting 36.5% from the three-point line. This season, High Point is tied for 6th in NCAA Division I for three pointers made on the season (32) through three games. Junior Callie Scheier (right) notched a career-high 7 three-pointers against MACU which is tied for third most in a single game in HPU history.
 
Terrell Named Freshman of the Week
Freshman Nakyah Terrell (below) was named the Big South Freshman of the Week for the first weekly awards of the season. Terrell poured in 29 points and pulled down10 rebounds in her first week of regular season games for the Panthers. She also tallied nine assists and three steals to go along with two blocks.
 
 
Record Book Watch
Redshirt junior Jenson Edwards finished in the top-five all-time for season field goal percentage in 2020-21. Edwards was 141-279 (.505) from the floor. Edwards was also ninth for free throws made and percentage in a season. She was third in percentage (.882) and ninth in free throws made (90). Jenson's .418 three-point percentage last season was fourth all-time for HPU as well.
 
Jordan Edwards (below) finished tied for fifth for assists in a season (142) and third in assists per game (5.1). Edwards has dished out 10 assists and six steals through the first three games in 2021-22.
