FARMVILLE, Va.-- The High Point University men's soccer defeated Longwood 1-0 in Farmville, Va, on Saturday night (Oct. 10). Sebastian Chalbaud scored his second goal of the year to deliver the second Big South win of the year for the Purple & White.
Zach Haines: "It was good to get the clean sheet and another result in the Big South. We are still working toward more consistency in our play and sustaining dominant periods for longer. Tonight was a good step in the right direction."
Panther Particulars
Perkins nearly put his Panthers on the board just four minutes in as Fernandez sent a ball into the box for Perkins who headed the ball and had his shot saved. The Lancer keeper had to punch the shot away in a diving effort to keep the Panthers off the board.
In the 12th minute, two Panther freshmen produced two quality chances, Tanner Rothenberger received a pass from MD Myers in the box and had his shot saved. David Greene picked up the rebound but his shot went wide.
One of the best Lancer chances of the first half came in the 29th as Holden Trent dove and made the save to keep Longwood scoreless.
Chalbaud put the Panthers up 1-0 in the 35th minute as he headed a ball that was sent in by Myers. Myers knocked a ball into the box that came bouncing out after a cross from Mason Marcey was punched away by the Lancer keeper.
As the first half came to an end Longwood had one more chance to score the Lancers had a one on one opportunity that was stopped initially by Trent the ball got past Trent and Finn McRobb was there to send the ball away and neutralize the chance.
In the second half, the Lancers looked like they had a chance of finding the equalizer as Gronli created space in the 55th minute but Trent was there for HPU as he made a diving save to deny Longwood.
In the 62nd minute, Trent made an incredible one-on-one save as the Lancer opportunity came off of a long ball but Trent came out and made the save with his legs to protect the 1-0 Panther lead.
Chalbaud almost added a second goal on the night as his shot in the 69th minute connected with the crossbar and bounced out.
HPU went on to win 1-0 picking up its second BIg South win of the season. The Panthers will take their winning momentum into Tuesday night in Raleigh.

The Panthers will take a break from Big South to play as they travel to Raleigh to face NC State on Tuesday, October 12th. The kickoff is set for 7 pm.
