CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- For the second consecutive year, three members of the High Point University women's golf program were named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, as announced by the WGCA Monday morning (June 29).
Samantha Vodry and
Sarah Kahn made the list for the third and second times in their careers, respectively, while freshman
Ashley Chalmers received the honor in her first season.
Â
"The All-American Scholar award in one of the most prestigious awards in college golf," head coach
Alexis Bennett had to say. "I'm extremely proud of Sarah and Samantha to have continued their leadership both on and off the golf course as multi-year recipients. I'm also excited for Ashely to earn this recognition as she continuously improved dramatically in both school and golf over the course of her first year as a Panther."
Â
To be nominated for WGCA All-American Scholar awards, student-athletes must have an overall GPA of 3.50 or higher for their entire collegiate career and have competed in 50% of the team's competitions for the school year nominated.
Â
This is High Point's third straight year with multiple WGCA All-American Scholars and brings Bennett's total up to eight that she's coached at HPU. For the program, it brings High Point's total up to 35, dating back to the 2004-05 season.
Â
"The entire team is excited and anxious to get back to work on the course and in the classroom, but especially continuing to increase the number of All-American Scholars - as we have the past four seasons," Bennett continued. "It really proves that we are headed in an extremely positive direction."
