EARLYSVILE, VA. – The panthers finished seventh at the Panorama Farms Invitational this past Friday morning in Earlysville, Virginia. HPU was just seconds behind Florida and Liberty with a total time of 1:49:34.10.
"I think the ladies raced very well." Head coach
Remy Tamer said. "we executed the game plan that we had set for ourselves, which was be aggressive early to edge out our place amongst the other teams in the first 2k of the 6k. We wanted to make it known that we were going to be aggressive and we set out to cement our spots towards the front."
Junior
Famke Heinst continues to put together stellar performances as she was the first finisher for High Point, coming in at 20:36:3 to finish 4th out of 156 women.
"Famke finishing fourth amongst that field is good, it is right on with the process where we are working. We are moving up this ladder, the way she and I see it is she is on schedule to be where she needs to be by the end of the year. Finishing routinely amongst All-Americans every week is good, because that is what we believe is her standard." Coach Tamer said about Heinst's performance.
Senior
Zoe Geis battled her way into the top 30, placing 27
th with a time of 21:40:8. Geis improves by over a minute from her time on September 14
th and missed her PR by only one second. Geis was the second High Point runner to finish.
Coach Tamer praised the effort of Geis. "
Zoe Geis set the tone for the first five finishers. As a senior leader, she sets the tone everyday but today in particular in a competition setting she forced everyone else to level up with her. She definitely led our High Point team ahead of a couple really big competitors that we would not have been able to beat otherwise. She did a fantastic job leading this group today."
Freshman
Tessa Webb continues to perform well as she finished 39
th with a time of 21:56:2, only two seconds away from 37
th.
Other top 100 finishes for the panthers included
Julia Hellman(60),
Katie Taylor (65),
Courtney Kerr(66)
Olive Allen(68),
Sydney Bagus(89), and
Camryn Harper(99)
Coach Tamer summed up the day. "Ultimately, I'd say over 90% of the women performed at or above the expectations they had and I had for them, we walk away from today with a feeling of fulfillment. However, we know we have four weeks of really big training coming up. This was our midterm test for the year and conference is the first week in November and that is what we care about."
