Panthers Extend Their Win Streak to Six

Davidson, NC- The High Point University volleyball team finished out the Wildcat Classic taking home two wins on the day extending their win streak to six.
 
High Point started day two of the Wildcat classic against Jacksonville at 10 AM. It was a highly competitive match that featured the lead changing 7 times and the score being tied 12 times. The Panthers beat Jacksonville 3-1 extending their win streak to 5 matches in a row. Freshman Annie Sullivan showed again why she received Big South Player of the week as she had another stellar performance. Sullivan led the Panthers in kills with 16 which was also a match high. Junior Abby Bottomley continues to anchor the High Point defense as she recorded a match high 18 digs against JU. Senior Jenna Smith added 25 sets in the match. Jacksonville and High Point battled for the first set as the Dolphins were ultimately able to take the first set 25-18. The Panthers underclassmen would fuel a Panther comeback. Contributions from Mink, Idlebird, Sullivan, Rammelsberg, Kratzer, and Salley would again prove to be the difference maker offensively Jacksonville applied pressure to High Point but the Panthers answered, and rattled off three set wins in a row to win the match 3-1.
 
For the second match of the day, the Panthers took on the Wildcats. In set one, the Panthers took a slow start allowing the Wildcats to jump ahead 8-5.  The Panthers then battled back with multiple kills from Freshman Kaley Rammelsberg, Freshman Sopheea Mink, and Freshman Megan Kratzer. The Purple & White then dominated with several kills and blocks to secure set one, 25-17. In set two, High Point and Davidson went into a back-and-forth point battle until the Panthers pulled away with the help of Maggie Salley's multiple kills. Salley  The Panthers took a commanding lead taking a 5-0 run and taking set 2, 25-15.
 
For set three the Purple and White took a slow start and the Wildcats came out looking for a win.  It was a tight battle with kills from both sides.  The Panthers then took a two point lead after several Davidson attack errors. The Wildcats tried to claw their way back in set three, but could not hold off the Purple & White. Freshman Kaley Rammelsberg helped close the door on the Wildcats tallying 5 kills in set three. Allowing the Panthers to take the game 25-19.
 
"Two great team wins today. We had contributions from everyone that stepped on the floor and had great energy and fight all day, said Coach Meek. "I was really proud of our effort this week in playing four matches in four days but we look forward to getting on the floor tomorrow against South Carolina!"

Junior Abby Bottomley and Freshman Annie Sullivan was named All-Tournament Team, and Freshman Kaley Rammelsberg was named MVP of the Wildcat Classic.  The Purple & White will be back in action tomorrow where they will take on the Gamecocks of South Carolina in Columbia at 6 p.m.
