Panthers Fall in Tough one Against Appalachian State 1-0

  • App State wins 1-0 off of a goal that came in the 37th minute
  • High Point outshot Appalachian State 23-12 with 5 shots on goal compared to App's 2

 

BOONE, NC-App State was able to capitalize on one of their two shots on goal and win the game 1-0. High Point maintained possession for a majority of the game, the Panthers ended the game leading in every offensive category (excluding goals scored). Despite low offensive stats, App State got a goal to go in the 37th minute and were able to hold the Panthers to win.

"It is a tough result to take tonight." Head coach Zach Haines said. "I know the guys are disappointed. We created a lot of chances and controlled the game. Credit to App State for scoring a great goal and defending resolutely. We will learn from tonight and continue to improve. The great news is we have a home game Tuesday so a chance to get back at it immediately."

The Panthers dominated possession in the first 15 minutes of the game. HPU dictated the pace and kept control throughout the first half. Excluding the goal, the Panther defense was able to limit App State's success. It was a very strong performance from all of the High Point defenders, Jordan Lonchar, Josh Dubost, Karson Kendall, and Alex Abril all had stand out nights and stopped quality mountaineer chances. The defense limited App State to only two shots on goal. Keegan Meyer recorded one save.

Alex Abril led the way for HPU in shots with 5, Ryan Inman followed closely behind him with 4, while Jordan Launcher recorded 3 shots. The High Point offensive effort resulted in 8 corner kicks, however, the Mountaineers defensice effort resulted in High Point being shut out. In the last 20 minutes of the game the Panther chances came early and often as the game down to the wire, the Panthers even had a chance to tie the game with under a minute to play the Panthers put the ball in the box twice. App State was able to knock it away as time expired and won the game 1-0.

Up NEXT: The panthers focus their attention to the Wofford terriers. Wofford comes to High Point on Tuesday for a 7 pm game at Vert Stadium.
