Tim Troutner Jr. Playing with Redwoods

Troutner Jr. Named PLL All-Star

July 9, 2019

HIGH POINT, N.C. - High Point University alumnus Tim Troutner Jr. has been named to the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) All-Star team in his first season playing for the Redwoods.

"It's been a great joy watching Timmy compete and thrive against the many talented players in the PLL," HPU head coach Jon Torpey said. "I can't remember one day in four years coaching him where he didn't bring his best and wasn't willing to hold himself and his teammates to the highest standard of excellence."

Troutner opened the inaugural PLL season with seventeen saves and a .653 save percentage for the Redwoods against the Atlas on June 2. He followed that performance with 12 saves against the Archers.

The Annapolis, Md., native logged his third game with double-digit saves as he blocked 13 shots in the Redwoods' 13-11 win over the Chrome on June 22. Troutner also added the first assist of his career against the Chrome.

"Timmy is one of the most authentic, hard working and humble people I have ever had the opportunity to coach," Torpey said. "His calm, but competitive demeanor and selfless attitude have allowed him to make a seamless transition into the professional game."

In his last game before the All-Star break, Troutner tied his career-high with 17 saves and a .629 save percentage in the Redwoods' 14-11 win over the Whipsnakes. This gave the Whipsnakes the first loss of the season.

Troutner has the highest save percentage in the PLL at 57.5 percent with 77 saves. The Redwoods are currently second in the PLL with a 4-2 record. They have the second-best score differential at six.

"I honestly believe Timmy is the best goalie in the world right now and as he continues to push himself he will only get better," Torpey said. "I truly believe in our short 8 year existence that we have had the best group of goalies in Division I to graduate from our program. We hope that cycle continues with our current group, and I firmly believe it will. Timmy, Tuell, Geisler, Porchetta, Siegmund and all the great goalies and goalie coaches fingerprints are all over the current guys. We look forward to seeing the next group rise to their level of excellence."

Troutner will compete in the PLL All-Star Game on July 21st at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. The game will take place at 8 p.m. followed by a skills challenge at 10:30 p.m.
