The High Point University men's soccer team (11-5-0, 6-0-0 Big South) returns to Vert Stadium to host Campbell (13-2-2, 7-0-0 Big South) in a Saturday night matchup. Both teams are undefeated in conference play, with the game will deciding the Big South Regular Season Champion. The Panthers will also be celebrating Senior Night, honoring the careers of their six seniors.
Matchup History
- The Panthers hold a 7-11-5 mark in the all-time series against the Fighting Camels. The teams met twice last season, playing to a 1-1 draw in Buies Creek during the regular season. Keegan Meyer made four saves in the matchup.
- HPU will look to get revenge against Campbell, as the Fighting Camels bounced High Point from last year's Big South Tournament. The teams were scoreless after regulation and three overtime periods, and Campbell won 3-2 in penalty kicks. Ryan Inman was one of the penalty kick scorers.
- Expect a close matchup, as matches between these two teams have not been decided by more than one goal since 2013 when High Point defeated Campbell, 3-1.
Panther Notes
- For the third straight year, High Point will be looking to clinch the Big South Regular Season Title. HPU clinched last year's championship in a 2-1 win against Radford and the 2017 title in a 1-0 win against Presbyterian. Both wins took place in front of the home crowd at Vert Stadium. Siggi Benonysson (2017) and Inman (2018) have both scored goals in Big South clinching games for the Panthers.
- The Panthers return to action after last playing at Radford on Saturday, overcoming a second-half deficit to score three straight goals and capture a 3-1 win.
- Senior Ilias Kosmidis scored two of the Panthers' goals in the game, his fourth and fifth of the year, good enough for the team-lead. Kosmidis was named Big South Attacking Player of the Week for his effort.
- Jonathan Bolanos now leads the Panthers in assists on the season, recording his third helper of the year on Kosmidis' second goal against Radford.
- After picking up two wins in net for the Panthers, including a shutout win at Duke and a four save performance at Radford, Meyer was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week, earning weekly honors for the second consecutive week.
Across the Bench
- Campbell comes into the matchup as the only other unbeaten team in Big South play, with a 7-0-0 conference mark and an overall record of 13-2-2.
- The Fighting Camels will bring an explosive offensive attack, as they have scored 31 goals in seven conference games for a 4.429 goals per game average, the best in the Big South.
- The offensive attack is led by conference-leading goal scorer Thibaut Jacquel who has eight goals in conference play (15 overall), and Matt Lock who leads the conference with seven assists this season.
- Goalkeeper Samuel Lechuga leads the Big South in goals against average (.767) with five goals allowed in seven conference games.
Up Next: High Point will close out the regular season at home on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. match against USC Upstate.
