DURHAM, N.C. -- The High Point University men's soccer team continued its winning ways with a 1-0 win on Tuesday evening (Oct. 22) at ACC foe Duke. The win was the Panthers fourth straight and second year in a row against the Blue Devils in Durham.
Â
"It was a great team performance and we played really well on both sides of the ball," said head coach
Zach Haines. "We worked together with everything we did and kept possession well. We created good chances in the run of play and defended well as a team."
Â
Sophomore
Alex Abril came away with the lone goal of the contest in the 65th minute with a shot that went through a Duke defenders' legs and between the hands of the goal keeper.
Â
High Point had its first shot on net in the 20th minute when senior

With eight minutes remaining in the opening half Inman would have another crack on net when he received a pass from classmate
Jonathan Bolanos from the wing that sailed just right of the net.

On the counter attack, Bolanos made a cross-field pass to Abril who dribbled it down the left side of the field and bringing it to his right foot before shooting between the defenders' legs and through the hands of the knelt down Duke keeper.
Â
The Panthers continued to put the pressure on in the closing 45, including an
Ilias Kosmidis shot from his left foot just outside the box in the 36th minute that went just wide.
Â
Duke nearly tied it with just under five minutes left in regulation on a counter attack when Colby Agu had a free shot to the net from the right side of the box that sailed wide.
Â
The hosts continued to put pressure on in the closing minutes, holding a 9-2 shot advantage in the second half, in search of an equalizer but the Panthers defense was able to hold strong and hold on for the victory.
Â
Meyer ended up facing 14 total shots, while only needing to make saves on a pair of them in his seventh clean sheet of the campaign. He continues to add to his program-lead in shutouts with 27.
