HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The High Point University men's soccer team remained perfect in Big South Conference play after two first half goals against Longwood University, 2-0, Saturday evening.

"We had an excellent start to the game. The energy and intensity was there, as well as some quality attacking play," said head coach Zach Haines. "We had a lot of chances and fortunately were able to take two of them in the first half. In the second half we did enough to manage the game and see it through. I'm proud of the boys and looking forward to Duke on Tuesday."

Ryan Inman gave HPU an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute with a shot at the top of the box. After the Panthers were awarded a free kick, Inman picked up a rebound off a blocked shot and failed clear, dribbled from his left foot to his right, and buried it to the left side for his second goal of the season.

High Point continued to pressure and keep control of the game in an opening half where it held a 7-3 shot advantage, HPU doubled its lead in the 25th minute when Jonathan Bolanos dribbled the ball into the zone and found Siggi Benonysson on the far post for his third goal of the campaign.

The Panthers continued its pressure in the second half, including an opportunity in the 69th minute on a shot by Alex Abril who got passed the back line on a counter attack that was saved by the Lancers keeper.

HPU nearly doubled the lead with an Abril shot that hit the bar and a Bolanos shot that was saved off the line by a Longwood defender.

Longwood had consecutive chances in the 74th minute in a half where it held a 7-2 shot advantage, including a shot inside the box that Keegan Meyer was able to grab to keep Panthers lead at 2-0.

Meyer recorded six saves while earning his sixth clean sheet of the season. He extends his program record in career shutouts to 26.

HPU will travel to Due on Tuesday, Oct. 22 for its final non-conference tilt of the regular season. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Durham.
