HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The High Point University men's soccer team earned a come-from-behind double overtime win against Presbyterian College after a
Jonathan Bolanos goal in the 104th minute on Wednesday (Oct. 16) evening at Vert Stadium.
Ryan Inman took the initial shot on net just inside the six-yard box that was stopped by the PC keeper, before Bolanos buried the loose ball off the rebound to keep High Point undefeated in Big South Play with a 4-0 conference record.
27 minutes into the contest PC had the first scoring chance, taking a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that redshirt senior
Keegan Meyer was able to bring down.
The Blue Hose continued to get chances on net in the early going with multiple indirect kicks that were placed on net, including a header off the indirect kick that Meyer was able to get his hands on.
HPU's best opportunities of the opening half came in the closing minutes when both
Jordan Lonchar and
Lalas Ayertey hit the post with shots from just outside the 18.
Five minutes into the second half PC was given a red card after
Ilias Kosmidis' shirt was grabbed to slow him down heading towards the box. The Panthers were granted a free kick taken by
Ryan Inman that went through the Blue Hose wall but was stopped by their keeper.
Presbyterian broke the scoreless tie in the 56th minute when Luca Ziegler placed a free kick on net that was headed in by Michael Wilson. Wilson was able to cause traffic in front of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
It would be Kosmidis in the 72nd to even the score at one apiece when he picked up an Inman cross and chipped the ball past the PC keepers' hands to the top left corner. The marker was Kosmidis' third of the season and second in as many games.
HPU controlled the game for most of the second half and throughout overtime, finishing the game with a 19-7 shot advantage after being outshot 5-2 in the opening 45 minutes of play.
The Panthers will head back on the road this weekend when they travel to Longwood (Saturday, Oct. 19). First kick scheduled for 7 p.m. from Farmville, Va.
