HPU Opens 2018 With Tournament at Auburn

HIGH POINT, N.C.—The High Point University volleyball team opens the 2018 campaign with a tournament at Auburn Friday and Saturday (Aug. 24-25) in Auburn, Ala.
 
The Panthers will play the host Tigers on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern and then play Michigan on Saturday at Noon Eastern. The match against Auburn will be broadcast live on SEC Network Plus.

On the Panthers
• HPU is coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including the first-ever at-large bid in school history in 2017
• High Point went undefeated through Big South play to win the conference regular season title
• The Panthers return 12 letterwinners from last season, including two-time All-Big South First Team honoree senior Molly Livingston.
• Livingston became the first Panther to earn AVCA All-Southeast Region Honorable Mention accolades.
• Sophomore Abby Bottomley was named the Big South Freshman of the Year and was a first-team all-conference honoree.
• Livingston was named the 2018 Big South Preseason Player of the Year
 
On the Tigers
• Auburn finished 15-12 overall in 2017
• The Tigers were picked to finish sixth in the SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• Junior Shaina White earned 2017 AVCA All-South Region Honorable Mention accolades.
 
On the Wolverines
• Michigan finished 21-12 overall and advanced to the NCAA Tournament as an at-large bid in 2017
• Michigan is currently receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 Preseason Poll.
• The Wolverines were chosen to finish sixth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches' poll.
• Senior Carly Skjodt was named to the preseason All-Big Ten team and was one of seven unanimous selections. The outside hitter was an AVCA All-America third team honoree last season.
 
Next Up
• The Panthers travel to Kennesaw, Ga., to take on Kennesaw State and Jacksonville in a tournament Aug. 30-31.
