Taylor Milne to Receive 2017 Bob Davidson Award

HIGH POINT, N.C.—One of High Point University's most accomplished track and field student-athletes, Taylor Milne ('05), will receive the 2017 Bob Davison Award, High Point University head track and field coach Mike Esposito announced Thursday (March 23).

Milne will receive the award as part of the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point on Saturday, April 1 at Vert Stadium.

"We are excited to be honoring Taylor with this year's Bob Davidson award," Esposito said. "Taylor is one of, if not the most, decorated athletes in HPU history. He not only ran at a world-class level, but he continues to give back to track and field through his coaching in the Canadian university system."

The Bob Davidson Award is given annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the sport of track & field. Davidson ('55) served as the head coach of track & field at High Point University from 1962-2001 and is a member of the Guilford County and High Point University Athletics Halls of Fame.

Milne is a two-time Canadian Olympian, having competed in the 1,500 meters at the 2008 Beijing Games and in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2016 Rio Games. He represented Canada at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in the steeple and also ran at the 2006 IAAF World Cross Country Championships.

At High Point, he was the 2003 Big South Indoor Most Outstanding Track Performer and a six-time Big South champion. He won the mile and the 800 meters at the 2003 indoor championships and the mile and 3,000 meters the following year. Outdoors, Milne won the conference title in the 1,500 meters twice in 2002 and 2005. Milne was also a 2002 All-Big South runner in cross country.

Milne still holds three High Point records, including the indoor mile (4:02.18) and 3,000 meters (8:13.43) and the outdoor 1,500 meters (3:43.99).

Milne is the seventh recipient of the Davidson Award and joins a distinguished list of past honorees.
