Hartman to be Inducted to Virginia Sports Hall of Fame

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Former High Point University baseball coach and athletic director Chuck Hartman will be enshrined as part of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2018, it was announced on Tuesday. Hartman was inducted to the High Point Athletics Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Hartman served as the head baseball coach at High Point for 18 seasons from 1960-78. Additionally's he was the university's athletic director from 1969-1972 and was the head coach for tennis and assistant basketball coach from 1958-59. Hartman holds the program record for wins with a career record of 483-227-3, winning10 conference championships, five district championships and two Area Championships at the NAIA level. His teams earned national rankings every year from 1972-1978, including a ranking of fifth in both 1972 and 1974.

During his career, he was named Carolinas Conference Coach of the Year five times (1971-72, 74-75, 78), NAIA District Coach of the Year six times (1970-72, 74-75, 78), and the 1976 Area Coach of the Year, Following High Point, Hartman went on to coach 27 years at Virginia Tech where he compiled a record of 961-591.

This is the eighth hall of fame induction for Hartman who is also a member of the High Point Athletics, Gaston County Sports, NAIA, Salem-Roanoke Sports, Virginia Tech Sports, American Baseball Coaches Association and Guilford County Sports Halls of Fame.

The induction will take place in Richmond, Va. on April 7. Other members of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2018 include: Frank Beamer, Michael Cuddyer, Doug Doughty, Thomas Jones, Kara Lawson, Rick Mahorn and Megan Silva Schultz.
