High Point Notes:
• The Panthers clinched the Big South regular season title in dramatic fashion on Saturday, defeating Presbyterian 1-0 on a goal from
Siggi Benonysson with 2.4 seconds remaining.
• Benonysson's first marker of the year was the first last-minute game winner for HPU since the Big South semis in 2015 when a Radford own goal capped off a three-goal-in-11-minute comeback for a 4-3 triumph.
• High Point has won five straight conference matches, the longest single-season stretch since HPU went a perfect 8-0 en route to winning the 2010 regular season championship.
• HPU has found its offensive stroke the last four matches, posting 10 goals in four wins. Prior to the outburst, HPU had scored seven goals in its previous nine matches and 12 goals overall. High Point is now second in the Big South in goals in conference games (15).
• Sophomore goalkeeper
Keegan Meyer has turned the corner over his last 10 matches. In that stretch, he has allowed just five goals in 957:25 in net (0.47 GAA). Meyer leads the Big South in GAA (0.43) and save percentage (.893) in conference games.
• High Point is 12-2-3 in its last 17 Big South regular season matches and are 14-5-5 under head coach
EJ O'Keeffe.
Longwood Notes:
• The Lancers enter play with a 1-14-2 mark, but have earned a result in two of their last three matches. Longwood defeated UNC Asheville (2-1), tied Radford (1-1), but lost in the final minute against Gardner-Webb Saturday (2-1).
• Longwood has been held to just 11 goals this season, but seven of the goals have come in the last five matches. Sammy Dupuy (2G, 1A) and Connor Rea (2G) have scored multiple times.
• The Lancers are the lone team in the Big South that have not recorded a shutout. Lance De Silva has a 1.65 GAA on the year.
• LU has been eliminated from Big South tournament contention.
Series Notes:
• The Panthers and Lancers square off for the 16th time in school history, and for the third time in the last two years.
• Last season, Longwood stunned High Point as the No. 6 seed in the Big South semifinals, winning 1-0 at Vert Stadium.
• High Point had won the meeting during the regular season, 3-0, on goals from Chad Poarch,
Bana Ganidekam, and
Siggi Benonysson.
• The Panthers held a 41-11 edge in shots during the two matches, including a 13-7 margin in shots on target. Goalkeeper
Keegan Meyer made six saves across the two games.
