HIGH POINT, N.C. – For the third time in the past four weeks, High Point University women's track & field thrower
Christine Rickert has been named the Big South Field Athlete of the Week.

Rickert's torrid start to the 2016 outdoor campaign has set the Lancaster, Pa., native up for the steady stream of awards she's received this spring. She has now earned the Big South weekly honor a total of five times in her career.

Rickert topped 50 meters in the javelin throw for the second straight week Friday at the ECU Bill Carson Invitational, winning the event with a mark of 50.93m (167-01). It marked the 14
th individual javelin title of her career.

The two-time defending Big South javelin champion broke the Big South record a week earlier at the 2016 VertKlasse Meeting, notching a mammoth throw of 52.47m (172-2) at HPU's annual home meet. The throw ranks No. 13 in the nation this season.

Rickert and the Panthers return to Vert Stadium this Friday at the Big South Triangular, which is a meet that pits HPU against Liberty and Coastal Carolina. Field events begin at 2 p.m., while events on the track commence at 5 p.m.
