Field events lead way for Panthers at Early Bird Duals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The High Point University women's track team posted 12 top-10 finishes at the UNCG Early Bird Duals on Sunday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. Redshirt-senior Jaime Schnuck had the Panthers' top finish of the day with a second-place showing in the weight throw.

"It was a positive day for us out there today," assistant coach Scott Hall said. "It is amazing what happens when you put a uniform on for the first time and the nerves kick in. We had a lot of freshmen and once the meet got underway the anxiety reduced and we put together some good performances. The biggest thing was that the effort was there and that is what we need moving forward."

Schnuck had a top throw of 15.93m to finish second on the day. Freshmen Allison Torrance and Ty-Liah Muse joined Schnuck in the top-10 in the event. Torrance finished in fifth with a throw of 13.06m while Muse finished eighth with a throw of 9.39m in their first collegiate meet. In addition to her fifth-place showing in the weight throw, Torrance also placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 11.88m.

The Panthers also boasted multiple top-10 finishers in both the pole vault and the high jump. Freshmen Heather Keck and Rachel Berndsen finished third and fourth respectively in the pole vault as Keck cleared a height of 3.35m and Berndsen finished just behind her with a cleared height of 2.75m. In the high jump, sophomore Charlotte Morrow, senior Erika Bridges and freshman Madison Reynolds all cleared 1.55m to finish sixth, seventh and ninth respectively.

In other field events, senior Amanda Gregory placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.33m and freshman Ariel Wilbekin placed eighth in the triple jump with a jump of 10.81m.

High Point is off now until the spring semester when the indoor season resumes at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. The two-day event begins on January 13.
