Tournament Page HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team leaves the Triad for the first time this month for a weekend tournament hosted by St. Francis (Pa.) in Loretto, Pa.
The Panthers (6-6) played eight of their last nine matches in the Millis Center going 5-3 in the home stand.
Last Time Out:HPU got off to a slow start on Tuesday night in the Millis Center against North Carolina A&T before storming back for a win in straight sets. The Aggies built a 19-15 lead in the opening frame, but the Purple & White responded with a 10-1 run to take the set 25-20. From there, the Panthers outscored A&T 50-34 in the final two sets.
For the second straight game, sophomore
Camryn Freiberg led HPU in kills as the Texas piled up 11 kills while hitting .455. Likewise, junior
Megan Kennedy had a solid night posting 10 kills and nine digs. Defensively, senior
Annemarie Chin racked up 19 digs while freshman
Abby Broadstreet had her first career 10-dig performance.
A Look at the Eagles:Coppin State has opened the season with a 1-7 record. The squad's win came against Rider last Saturday at the UMBC Tournament by a 3-1 margin. Senior Cindy Okpegbue leads the Eagles' offense with 3.19 kills per set and is one of three players averaging over 2.00 kills per set.
Another senior, Chelsee Sauni, orchestrates the offense with 8.54 assists per set as the team is hitting at a .122 clip while opponents are hitting .281 against the Eagles. In the back row, sophomore Glorines Rosado paces the squad with 4.23 digs per set. Meanwhile, senior Kendra Ireigbe is the team's top blocker with 0.96 blocks per set.
A Look at the Red Flash:Saint Francis (Pa.) opened the season 1-1, but has managed just one more victory since and is on a 6-game losing streak. Last weekend, the Red Flash lost in straight sets to Wright State twice and dropped a 4-set match to Akron in the Wright State Tournament.
Senior Hannah Kutny is leading the team in kills (3.32 kills per set) and is second in digs (3.57 digs per set). Sophomore Lauren Williams (5.35 assists per set) and freshman Amelia Metzler (5.59 assists per set) split time as the setter as senior libero Jenna Veres paces the team in digs per set (4.12)
A Look at the Rams:Fordham started the year 1-4, but has since won four of its last seven matches to produce a 5-7 record. The team is riding a 2-game winning streak with triumphs over Rider on Saturday and St. Peter's on Tuesday.
Freshmen Breanna Jones and Natalie Martinez are both having efficient seasons with over 2.20 kills per set while tallying plus-.200 attack percentage. Another freshman, Olivia LaPorta is posting 0.92 blocks per set while sophomore Clarissa Cartledge leads the team in 3.55 digs per set.

Annemarie Chin is tops in the Big South and sixth in the nation with 5.85 digs per set.
• Sophomore
Haley Barnes is third in the conference with 3.60 kills per set and is second among Panthers with 2.87 digs per set.
• Freshman
Jordan Hefner leads all Big South freshmen in attack percentage (.297) and blocks (0.88 per set) – those numbers are good for seventh and ninth respectively.
• High Point leads the conference and is 13th in the nation in digs per set (17.22).
• Sophomore
Camryn Freiberg has come on in the last two matches racking up 27 kills while hitting at a .407 clip.
Next Up:The Panthers wrap up their non-conference slate with a trip to Western Carolina on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m. Big South play kicks off on Friday, Sept. 25 in the Millis Center when HPU hosts Campbell at 7:00 p.m.
