LIVE STATSLIVE VIDEOHIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team will take on Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn., on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. CT. The Panthers will try and bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season on Friday.
High Point dropped a 1-0 decision to Appalachian State in Boone, N.C., on Friday. It marks the latest into a season in program history that HPU has suffered its first loss.
The Panthers feature a balanced attack with seven players combining for 10 goals in 2015. Sophomore
Becca Rolfe leads High Point with six points on three goals while fellow sophomore
Michele Micciche has two goals and sophomore
Meredith Dunker is tied for second in the Big South with three assists.
Sophomore
Alex Persiani has appeared in four games with three starts so far this season. The keeper is 1-1-2 with a 0.76 goals-against average and an .833 save percentage.
Vanderbilt is 4-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the SEC following a 2-1 win over Mississippi State on Friday. The Commodores also have wins against Gonzaga, Dartmouth and Lipscomb as well as losses to Miami (Ohio), Cincinnati and Seattle.
Simone Charley leads Vanderbilt with six points and three goals in seven games. Lydia Simmons also has multiple goals with two on the season. Christiana Ogunsami has played all seven games in goal and has a 1.22 goals-against average with a .771 save percentage.
Sunday's meeting between High Point and Vanderbilt will be the first ever game between the two squads. High Point is 0-2-1 all-time against teams currently in the SEC including a 0-0 draw with Georgia at Vert Stadium in the season opener.
