LIVE STATSHIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team hits the road for the first time in 2015 this weekend when the Panthers travel to Towson, Md., to face the Tigers of Towson University on Friday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m.
HPU enters the weekend with a 1-0-1 record. A win over the Tigers would give High Point its best start to a season in program history, besting its start from last season when the Panthers opened the season with a 1-0-2 mark. High Point began the season with a 0-0 draw against Georgia and a 2-0 win over UNCG last weekend. Redshirt-sophomore
Meghan Beidleman and sophomore
Michele Micciche both scored in HPU's win over its inter-Triad rival.
Sophomore keeper
Alex Persiani was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after posting back-to-back clean sheets to start the season. Persiani had 11 saves in the two games on the way to her first two solo shut outs. She was part of seven team shutouts while splitting time in net as a freshman in 2014.
Towson is 0-2-0 on the season after opening 2015 with 1-0 road losses at Bucknell and St. John's. Sophomore midfielder Cait Oswald leads the Tigers with four shots so far this season, two on frame. Junior Taylor Sebolao has played every minute between the pipes for Towson, posting a 1.00 goals-against average with a .889 save percentage and 16 saves.
The Tigers return 16 letter winners from a team that went 6-9-4 in 2014 and reached the Colonial Athletic Association postseason for the first time in program history. Towson was selected eighth in the CAA preseason poll in a tie with Elon. Senior defender Vashthy Delgado was also named to the CAA All-Preseason Team.
High Point is 1-0-0 all-time against Towson. The two teams previously met in 2011 when HPU earned a 2-1 road win over the Tigers.
