HIGH POINT, N.C. - The High Point University women's track & field team returns to action Sunday as part of a six-team dual meet at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The UNCG Spartan Team Challenge will kick off at 2 p.m. and feature High Point University, UNCG, Wofford, NC Central, Savannah State and Big South foe Campbell.
Scoring will be consistent with NCAA dual meet scoring, which stipulates that scoring is limited to two individuals per team and one relay per team. Scoring for individual events is 5-3-2-1. Scoring for relay events is 5-3. Each team will be given scored results against three different teams with results posted at the conclusion of the meet.
After two meets featuring HPU's throws, jumps, sprints and hurdles units, the Big South champion distance program will be added to the mix on Sunday. A trio of seniors will run for the Panthers in the 3000m event, including
Lauren Blackwell,
Krista Willard and
Leah Anne Wirfel. Junior
Julia Zautcke and freshman
Kelly Hayes will perform for the Panthers in the mile run.
Junior
Alyssa Palenchar will look to make it two victories in two meets when she competes in the pole vault on Sunday. She will be joined by five other Panthers in the event, including
Katie Benavente,
Ashton Kirby,
Madison Depner,
Catelyn Griffin and
Jill Marois. Palenchar finished first in the event at last week's Winston-Salem State Open.
In the women's 60m hurdles, the HPU freshman "Fab Four" of
Ashlynn Schiro,
Haley Cianfarini,
CeAnna Soper and
Mikaela Campbell will look to improve on their solid starts to the campaign in the event beginning at 2:30 p.m.
