HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team dropped its second-straight five-set match on Sunday to Western Carolina. The Catamounts scored the final four points of the day to win set five 15-13 and take the match 3-2 (20-25, 25-13, 20-25, 25-19, 13-15).

"There were opportune moments in the match that we just didn't take advantage of," said head coach
Jason Oliver. "We need to realize that we are a talented team and we have the pieces to make plays but we have to make them at the right times."

Chelsea Davis had her second 20-kill match in a row and her third double-double of the season with 21 kills and 10 digs. Senior
Kristin Heldt posted her second-straight double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs. Junior
Gabi Mirand also had a double-double with 50 assists and 17 digs.

High Point outhit Western Carolina .201 to .170 and had more kills, 63 to 50 and digs, 84 to 64.

Jordan Timmermann led the Catamounts with 15 kills and 10 digs while Addy George and Caitlin Piechota each tallied 10 kills.

After dropping the first set, HPU hit .462 in set two for a commanding 25-13 win. The teams traded sets three and four to tie the match 2-2 and force a fifth set. The Panthers broke a 11-11 tie with an ace from
Greta Griswold in the fifth set. Heldt followed with a kill to put High Point ahead 13-11. Western Carolina scored the final four points of the match to win set five 15-13 and the match 3-2.

Megan Kennedy finished one dig shy of a double-double (10 kills, nine digs).

High Point travels to Elon, N.C. to face the Phoenix on Wednesday at 7 p.m. It is the second of six-straight in-state opponents for the Panthers. Last year HPU topped Elon in five sets at the Millis Center.
