Jacob Smith and
Patrick Crawford finished second and third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the High Point University men's track & field team at the second day of the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday.
Smith finished second with a time of 8:57.46, just behind BYU's Curtis Carr who won with a time of 8:57.03. Crawford took third with a time of 9:04.37, edging out BYU's Travis Fuller who was fourth in 9:04.95.

Christian Spaulding placed third in the javelin with a throw of 65.78 meters (215-10).

Chris Colo finished fifth in the participation section of the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:15.23, just two seconds off his collegiate best. Junior
Jeff LaCoste finished eighth in the 5,000-meter with a time of 14:57.37 and sophomore Paddy Gandinali finished seventh in the 10,000-meter in 31:05.82.
On Friday, senior
Evan Emery ran a season-best time of 10.38 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash, then won the finals with a time of 10.39.
Several HPU competitors were also in action at the Aggie Last Chance meet on Sunday. Next week, the Panthers are back in competition with the Wolfpack Last Chance in Raleigh, N.C., on Friday and the Hokie Twilight in Blacksburg, Va., on Sunday.
