Christine Rickert of the High Point University women's track & field team has been named the Big South Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Rickert won the javelin event at last weekend's VertKlasse Meeting with a meet record 47.26 meters (155-01). The mark, which she attained on her first throw of the day, came up just short of the HPU school record of 47.78 meters (156-9), which she set last year.
Rickert has improved her distance in every event this season and her VertKlasse toss ranks No. 17 in the NCAA East Region. She has won back-to-back events after also finishing first at the Winthrop Invitational on March 29 with a throw of 45.64 meters (149-9).
High Point is once again in action this weekend in the Triad area as the team competes at the Aggie Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. The competition will be the final meet prior to the Big South Championship in Rock Hill, S.C. on April 17-19.
