First Day Results
The High Point University women's track & field team kicked off the outdoor season on Friday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
HPU had a good showing from several athletes on Friday including freshman
Amanda Gregory, who won the long jump "B" flight with a mark of 5.26 meters (17-3.25). Freshman
Alexis Fernandez came in third in the event with a distance of 5.22 meters (17-1.50).
Elsewhere in the field events, sophomore
Christine Rickert was the runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 43.96 meters (144-03). Junior
Catelyn Griffin was HPU's top finisher in the pole vault "A" flight with a mark of 3.50 meters (11-5.75). The vault was Griffin's best career outdoor mark and tied her career-best clearance, which she set two weeks ago at the Big South Indoor Championship. Freshman
Madison Depner also finished fourth in the pole vault "B" flight by matching her Big South Indoor Championship mark of 3.20 meters (10-6).
The Panthers continued their success on the track with two runner-up finishes. Senior
Colleen Hollowood finished second in the 800-meter race in 2:25.59 while sophomore
Emily De Lena came in second place in the 200-meter dash in 26.23.
Junior Sarah Dorell finished seventh in the 1,500-meter race by crossing in 5:04.01.
High Point will return to action tomorrow at the CCU Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday's events will conclude the two-day meet.
