Three members of the High Point University men's track & field team competed in the USATF National Championship on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa. Senior Dakota Peachee finished 12th in his heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the senior national championship.

In the junior national championship, freshman Dennis Crawford placed 10th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.58. On Thursday, Crawford finished 12th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.38. Freshman Cody Seymour placed eighth in the 10,000-meter with a time of 32:56.84.

In the steeplechase, Peachee was among the leaders early in the race and was in fourth place with five laps to go. He was still in fifth a lap later before dropping off from the lead pack, which featured professional, post-collegiate and collegiate runners.

Ben Bruce and Corey Leslie surged late in the race and Leslie pulled away for a commanding lead with two laps to go. Leslie pulled up on the final stretch, finishing third, as the top five from the head advanced to the final on Sunday.

Craig Forys won the heat with a time of 8:37.79 followed by William Nelson (8:37.87) and Leslie (8:37.92). Peachee finished 12th in the heat and 22nd overall with a time of 9:14.82. He became High Point's first Div. I All-American earlier in the month when he placed fifth in the NCAA Championship with his HPU-record time of 8:43.04.

The meet finished the 2012-13 season for High Point University track & field.
