Sara Katherine Kirkpatrick and
Zoey Miller competed in the heptathlon at the Lynchburg College Open Multi-Event on Monday and Tuesday in Lynchburg, Va. Kirkpatrick finished fourth and Miller took eighth.
Kirkpatrick finished in the top three in the two open running events, taking seconding the 800-meter with a time of 2:27.04 and third in the 200-meter in a time of 27.57. She also placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.42 meters (4-7.75) and fourth in the shot put at 9.10 meters (29-10).
Kirkpatrick's throw in the shot put as well as her time of 17.77 in the 100-meter hurdles were career bests along with her score of 3,620 points.
Miller set collegiate bests of 2:37.13 in the 800-mter, 19.25 in the 100-meter hurdles, 4.24 meters (13-11) in the long jump and 8.90 meters (29-2.5) in the shot put at Lynchburg. Her score of 2,853 was off her career best of 3,190 from the Big South Championship because she didn't clear a bar in the long jump.
The Panthers' outdoor season continues with a pair of last chance meets this weekend. HPU competes at NC State on Friday and at North Carolina A&T on Sunday.
