The High Point University volleyball team wrapped up play in the UNCW Courtyard Wilmington Beach Bash with a sweep of Delaware State on Saturday in Wilmington, N.C. Senior Courtney Johnk finished an outstanding weekend with 10 kills and four blocks against the Hornets.

"This win was a good way to close out the weekend," said head coach Jason Oliver. "This team is capable of playing at a much higher level and I am looking forward to getting back to practice on Monday and seeing how hard we can work."

The Panthers improved to 2-1 with the 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-17) win.

Sophomore Chelsea Davis finished the match with a team-high 11 kills and eight digs. Sophomore Caity Farus hit .438 with eight kills and junior Michelle Chakirelis added nine kills. Redshirt-sophomore Maddie Simpson dished out 34 assists and senior Molly Barlow came up with nine digs.

The Panthers never trailed in the first set, winning 25-20 behind seven kills from Johnk who didn't commit an error in the frame. As a team, the Panthers hit .441 with 19 kills.

Delaware State erased an early HPU lead and tied the second set 24-24. Davis pulled out the win for the Panthers with a kill and a solo block of Edarkis Branch. Davis had four kills on 10 swings in the frame.

Three kills by Farus in the middle of the third set gave HPU a 14-10 lead. HPU held that advantage and went on to win the frame 25-17 and complete the sweep.

High Point will host Wake Forest in the Panthers' home opener on Tuesday at the Millis Center. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
