The High Point University women's basketball team scored the first 11 points of the game against UNC Asheville and never looked back, picking up a 74-56 win over the Bulldogs in the regular-season finale on Monday evening in Asheville, N.C. Junior
Erin Reynolds had 21 points to pace the Panthers.
“I am really excited with the way we played defense tonight,” head coach Jennifer Hoover said. 'We were able to come out early and get stops and convert to build an 11-0 lead. We have talked about our defense turning into offense and we did a good job with that tonight.”
Reynolds shot 10-18 in the game to pick up her seventh 20-point game of the season. The junior had three steals in the game, converting all three for layups at the other end. The HPU backcourt combined for 35 of the Panthers' 74 points with sophomore
Tayler Tremblay chipping in 14 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds.

Cheyenne Parker led all players on the boards with 12 rebounds in the game. She is now seven rebounds shy of the Big South single-season record of 363 rebounds which was set by Liberty's Avery Warley last season.
UNC Asheville was led on the night by freshman Shonese Jones who scored 25 points on 11-20 shooting. Jones was the only Bulldog player in double figures as Lindsey Thompson was second on the team with nine points.
With the win High Point wraps up the regular season with an 18-11 overall record and a 13-5 record in Big South play. The 13 wins in conference play is a new team-high for the Panthers. UNC Asheville finishes the regular season with a 7-22 overall record and a 3-15 record in the Big South.
Tremblay opened the scoring with a put back off an offensive rebound and was quickly followed with a fast break jumper by Reynolds and a steal and layup by junior
Laura Whitt. Tremblay then scored five-straight points on an old-fashioned three-point play and a tip in to make the score 11-0 with just over 14 minutes left in the half.
Two free throws by UNCA's Gentry Manley got Asheville on the board and the two teams traded baskets for the next nine minutes until a three by freshman
Lexi Patterson started a 1205 run by the Panthers to close out the half. Reynolds scored four points during the run while senior
Shamia Brown had three including a put back at the buzzer to make the score 33-16 at the break.
The Panthers shut down Asheville in the first half, holding the Bulldogs to just 6-28 from the field (21.4 percent). Tremblay finished the opening 20 minutes with nine points to lead all scorers while Reynolds had eight. Manley led UNCA with four points at the break.
HPU continued to up the pressure in the opening minutes of the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 9-4 in the first two minutes to push the lead to 22, 42-20. Reynolds scored seven of the nine points with two layups and a three for High Point.
The Panthers would push their lead to as much as 30, 70-40, on a three by freshman
Hallie Gunnoe with 5:52 remaining before ultimately winning by 18.
High Point will once again play host to the Big South Women's Basketball Championship next weekend. The tournament will begin with the quarterfinals on Friday, March 9. HPU enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will play No. 7 Coastal Carolina at 5:30 p.m.
