FINAL RESULTS
Senior
Manika Gamble collected a pair of third place finishes to lead the High Point University women's track & field team at the UNC Kent Taylor Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday. Gamble ran the 400-meter in 56.50 and was part of the 4x400 relay.
“Manika competed so well last weekend and she was very successful keeping the momentum going today,” said head coach
Mike Esposito. “She has never run that fast on a flat track.
Lynee Pina also had a great sequence in the weight throw and Kaitlyn Whittington has been consistently where we like in the long jump. We set ourselves up well for the Big South Championship in the 4x400 relay with a fast time today.”
Gamble finished third in the 400-meter with a time of 56.50. The top five finishers in the event came from Gamble's heat. Emily Fisher came in with a time of 1:02.31, good for 14th place in the event.
Gamble and Fisher were both part of the third place 4x400 relay team. Fisher ran the second leg and Gamble ran the third.
Sarah Dorrell opened the race and Kaitlyn Whittington ran the final leg. The Panthers finished in 4:05.24.
Senior
Lynee Pina set a season best in the weight throw with a distance of 13.56 meters (44-6) on her third attempt.
In her third attempt at the triple jump, Whittington went 10.84 meters (35-6.75) to finish in third place.
Shannon Corbett ran the 200-meter in 29.00 for 19th place in the event.
Megan Lowery placed ninth in the long jump with a distance of 4.68 in her sixth and final attempt.
Dorrell ran a time of 2:23.93 in the 800-meter, her first collegiate attempt at the event, for a ninth place finish.
Kelsey Paine finished 18th (2:27.83) and
Colleen Hollowood placed 21st (2:29.10) in the event.
High Point heads to Winston-Salem, N.C. next weekend for the Fast Track Invitational.
