The High Point University women's basketball team fell at the buzzer to Coastal Carolina by a score of 59-58 on Monday night in Conway, S.C. Senior Shamia Brown led the Panthers in the game with 26 points.

CCU had the ball with 11 seconds remaining as Angelica Henry dribbled to the top of the key and attempted to deliver a pass into the post. The ball was deflected by a leaping Tayler Tremblay and fell back to Henry who dribbled down to the right baseline and put up a floater that fell through the net at the buzzer to give Coastal the 59-58 win.

Brown shot 12-18 in the game to lead HPU. The senior finished with a team-high four assists and set a new career high with seven steals. Sophomore Cheyenne Parker was second on the team with nine points while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.

Shamia Brown just had a great performance tonight,” head coach Jennifer Hoover said. “She is playing like a senior in her last month of basketball. She really carried us at times tonight. I thought we had our ups and downs in the first half but at the beginning of the second half we played like the High Point of old. The kids played hard and are really trying to turn this thing around, we just got to figure out how to play to the end.”

Coastal was led by Olivia Irick who finished with 20 points on the night to go along with a team-high eight rebounds and three steals.

The loss drops High Point to 14-11 overall on the season and 9-5 in the Big South. Coastal Carolina improves to 13-11 overall and 6-9 in the Big South with the win.

Neither team could take control of the game in the first half as the lead swung between both squads 10 times. High Point trailed by four, 17-13 with 11 minutes left in the period before a 9-0 run put the Panthers up by five, 22-17, with 7:59 left. Parker scored five points during the run with three coming from the free throw line while Lindsay Puckett hit her second three of the night.

HPU led by four, 31-27, with 2:24 remaining in the half, but the Chanticleers closed on a 7-0 run of their own to take a 34-31 lead into the locker rooms. Henry scored five of CCU's seven points on a three pointer and two free throws.

The Panthers jumped back into the lead at the start of the second half thanks to ten-straight points by Brown. The senior forward got a pass on the wing and drove to the basket for a layup on the first possession of the period then scored twice on the fast break before a driving layup from the top of the key gave HPU a 39-34 lead and forced a Coastal timeout.

The High Point run would stretch to 14-0 on a long jumper by Tayler Tremblay and a hook shot in the lane by Parker before a baseline jumper by CCU's Taylor Eppley started a 10-0 run by Coastal and cut the HPU lead back to 45-44 with 9:25 left.

High Point trailed by one, 53-52, with 2:32 remaining after Irick connected on two free throws but Brown managed to find space in the paint off an offensive rebound and hit a jumper to put the Panthers back up one, 58-57.

After a Coastal turnover, HPU had the ball up one with 44 seconds left but an inbounds under the basket fell out of bounds off the hands of a Panther player giving Coastal the ball with 11 seconds remaining.

There were four ties and 16 lead changes in the back-and-forth game with the final change coming on the Henry floater. High Point finished with 16 steals in the game and forced 23 turnovers. CCU won the battle of the boards on the night, outrebounding the Panthers, 43-29.
