Senior Manika Gamble finished off a great weekend for the High Point University women's track & field team with a second place finish in the 200-meter to wrap up competition at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Kayleigh Perry also collected a top-ten finish in the mile.

“It was a pretty light day of competition for the women,” said head coach Mike Esposito. “Manika finished off a great weekend with the 200-meter and Emily Fisher ran well in the event also. Kayleigh started out really strong in the mile but didn't close as well as we would like. She will learn from it and keep getting better in preparation for the Big South Championship.”

Gamble won her heat of the 200-meter with a time of 25.43 to finish second overall behind UNC's Elizabeth Mott. On Friday Gamble set the HPU school record in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.66. Fisher ran a 27.27 in the even to place 18th.

Sophomore Kayleigh Perry ran the mile in 5:18.26, for a sixth place finish. Perry edged out NCCU's Amber Brooks who came in less than a second behind.

Kaitlin Whittington had a distance of 10.97 meters in the triple to finish fourth in the event. She reached 10.97 meters on her sixth attempt.

Next week the Panthers will be back at UNC for the Kent Taylor Invitational on Saturday.
