Jacob Smith,
Alex Fisher and
Jacob Mathews placed sixth in their respective events to lead the High Point University men's track & field team on Saturday at the Dick Taylor UNC Invitational.
“We took a very small group of the guys to UNC this weekend,” said head coach
Mike Esposito. “We accomplished what we needed which is to keep training and getting ready for the Big South Championship.”
Smith and
Jonathan Riley finished sixth and eighth in the 3,000-meter, respectively. Smith posted a time of 8:42.04 while Riley finished in 9:01.58. Riley's time was his best of the season, marking a five second improvement from two weeks ago at UNC (9:06.25).
Anthony Kilar also finished 12th in the race in 9:14.51.
Alex Fisher ran an 8.43 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles to advance to the finals. He placed sixth in the event with a time of 8.45 in the finals.
Jacob Mathews finished sixth in the pole vault with a height of 14-1.25 (4.3 meters).
Evan Emery ran a 23.15 in the 200-meter dash to place seventh.
Next weekend the Panthers will compete at Virginia Tech next weekend in the final meet before the Big South Indoor Championship.
