Final Results
Jacob Smith won the mile and
TJ Brancaccio and
Alex Fisher took second in their respective events to lead the High Point University men's track & field team at the Kent Taylor UNC Run for the Kids Meet.
“Everyone showed improvement in this meet,” said head coach
Mike Esposito. “We say everyone competing and working hard and it showed in the results. Everyone saw competition similar to what will be at the Big South Championship so there is a lot that we can take away from this weekend.”
Smith's time of 4:18.46 was a full second ahead of the second place finisher, Brendan Pierson from Duke. Freshman
Patrick Crawford also ran the event, finishing in fifth with a time of 4:27.63.
Brancaccio was second on the pole vault for the second consecutive weekend. He cleared 4.65 meters (15-3), bettering last weekend's vault of 4.59 meters (15'0.75).
Fisher and
Ryan Venable finished second and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, respectively. In the preliminaries Fisher ran a 8.42 while Venable finished in 8.88. Fisher improved to 8.34 in the finals, taking second just behind UNC Asheville's Milan Ristic. Venable improved his time to 8.71 in the finals to finish fourth. Both times are personal bests.
With a time of 7.10 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash,
Justin Conaway advanced to the finals where he finished fourth in 7.06.
Evan Emery took fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.92 and
Sebastien Bonnot was sixth in the 400-meter (53.06).
The Panthers will compete at the ETSU Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn. next weekend.
